That leaves us with a span of 18 unaccounted years of Christ's life. Where Jesus was and what did He do? These are questions we would love to have it been answered, and so we think? But this, we know with certainty that Jesus waited for His appointed time. And in so doing, He did what was His Fathers Will.
In a fast-paced world, we can’t think of giving away our time or life to someone or anyone. The question, we so selfishly and often ask is, ‘What about me?’
As God in human flesh, Jesus prioritized and chose to give His first moments to seeking His Father. Shouldn’t we all follow our Master? (Everybody at some point has their own work schedules, but what about when you get the time off-could you make time for God?)
Keep God first place!
Jesus would find a desolate place, to be one with His Father-He would withdraw to pray.
Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man.
For 18 years, Jesus was locked in with His Father.
And God has an appointed time for everything.
And everything comes together according to the Holy Will of God.
Not one minute before and not a second late than the God appointed time.
It was a mission and there were people who would accompany Jesus on this mission. There was an appointed time for Jesus to come-across each person or people's path. Had Jesus started even a day early then the scheduled time for Jesus, He would miss those who were meant to be on that journey with Him.
Often we hurry in our lives. But God is all knowing. That is what the 18 years of waiting was all about. It was waiting for all the people to be on the scene at the God appointed time for each person to be. It was a call to all.
Those who had to be healed: I will make a mention here of:
- John 5-One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” (Jesus, Himself comes to the man. A Miracle is bound to happen, this man waited for 38 years. He had faith. God personally came to him)
- Matthew 8-and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (It is so obvious that this man needs healing but look at the words he speaks...if you will, you can make me clean- Jesus, in His Heart definitely waited for this man)
- Matthew 8-As he entered Caper′na-um, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress.” And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion answered him, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.(Similar words we pray at the celebration of the mass). For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; be it done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. (Jesus marvels at his faith)
We have the Feeding of the Five Thousand People.
We have the Feeding of the Four Thousand People.
Each person present was called to be there, at the appointed time.
- Jesus heals the Gerasene Demoniac. Jesus travels to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasene' to heal the man with an unclean spirit. Jesus travelled all the way to free this man from Legion. Mark 5 - “Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
- A girl restored to life and a woman healed. Jesus crossed again in the boat to the other side. Jesus meets Jairus whose daughter is on deathbed. Jairus asks Jesus to come heal his daughter. Jesus walks along with Jairus to his home and on the way Jesus comes across this woman who suffers haemorrhage for 12 years. Through her, Jairus is shown what it is to believe and have healing. A CALL to be Saints: We have The Apostles, and we have Mary Magdalene also we have St. Veronica who wiped the face of Jesus, we have St. Simon of Cyrene who carried the Cross of Jesus.
If Jesus hurried, if Jesus did not wait on His Father, so many people would have missed on being there at the right time. And speaking about that good thief on the right side of Jesus, who asked Jesus to remember him when Jesus comes to His kingdom. How could Jesus leave him out?
The beauty of Jesus, He chooses to leave no one out. That is the wait. For every factor, for every person and in keeping the most important of all, God's Time!
In His wait, Jesus was obedient and humble. In the real sense, why would God have to wait on any person to come on the scene. But God did not hurry anyone and neither did Jesus ever expect that.
Jesus waited on His Father.
And so should we, but we fail miserably.
