Purgatory...

The only suffering of Purgatory is the loss of God. In Purgatory there is great consolation from assurance of salvation. A host of apparitions say there is something like fire in Purgatory.

We do know that the souls there cannot merit or help themselves, they can only suffer. We know we can by prayers and penances relieve them, and somehow, they are enabled to know it when we do that. St. Augustine in his Confessions written 10 to 15 years after the death of his mother, St. Monica, still asked for prayers for her. Purgatory may last the equivalent of many years (there is no time in Purgatory).

Purgatory is defined as a "purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven,"
The purification is necessary because, Revelation 21:27 teaches - nothing unclean will enter the presence of God in heaven.
The process of sanctification through which the Christian is made holy. Sanctification involves suffering. Romans 5:3–5, and purgatory is the final stage of sanctification. Purgatory is the final phase of Christ’s applying to us the purifying redemption that He accomplished for us by His death on the Cross.

"The term purgatory does not indicate a place, but a condition of existence", where Christ "removes ... the remnants of imperfection".

Second Vatican Council teaches: "Since we know neither the day nor the hour, we should follow the advice of the Lord and watch constantly so that, when the single course of our earthly life is completed Hebrews 9: 27, we may merit to enter with him into the marriage feast and be numbered among the blessed, and not, like the wicked and slothful servants, be ordered to depart into the eternal fire, into the outer darkness where "men will weep and gnash their teeth” Matthew 22:13 and 25:30
The Poor Souls must wait for entrance into Heaven. They already know what He will say: "Well done, good and faithful servant! Enter into the joys of the Lord."
How very pleasing it must be for the Souls in Purgatory to know that we generously offer prayers, penances, and especially the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for their quick release. Lest we forget, we do them immense favours by gaining Indulgences.
Through indulgences the faithful can obtain the remission of temporal punishment resulting from sin for themselves and also for the souls in Purgatory.

RESOLUTION – Things we can do for others and ourselves.
  • The Our Father: "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us" These are the very words of God Himself and repeated frequently and fervently will certainly obtain for us pardon of our sins.
  • The Our Father: “Thy will be done.” In all our troubles, small and great, let us do likewise. By this simple act we change sorrow into joy, the worries of life into gold for Heaven.
  • Every time we say the Hail Mary let us saythe words: "Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen"
  • If we are afraid to do much, let us do many little things.
  • Let us suffer with calmness and serenity for the love of God. We shall thus save ourselves and if offered for other souls (save them as well) from Purgatory.
  • Let us go to Mass and Holy Communion every day. We can do nothing better. One day with Mass and Communion is worth a hundred days without them.
  • Those who say the little prayer: "Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee" one hundred times a day gain 30,000 days Indulgence. Those who say it 1,000 times, as many do, gain 300,000 days Indulgence each day! Let us strive to gain all possible Indulgences.
  • "Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, with all the Masses being said all over the world this day, for the Souls in Purgatory." Our Lord showed St. Gertrude a vast number of souls leaving Purgatory and going to Heaven as a result of this prayer.

Let us have been for all the celebration of Masses as much as is possible;
Let us offer all our pains and sufferings for the relief of the Holy Souls.
Let us pray in earnest for all the souls in Purgatory.
We shall with the grace of God - thus be able to relieve countless souls from Purgatory.

At Mass – The Priest prays

Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.

At Mass when the Priest makes a pause I am able to pray – This is how I pray, I pray for all the Souls who have come into the world from the beginning of time. I pray for all those who have left the world today until the next time I attend mass. I pray for God’s mercy on all the Souls. I pray for the release of all the Souls from Purgatory.
Fr. Ashlyn and Fr. Lenny always make a pause so everyone can pray.

I get the chance to pray for all the souls. I love them all so much. I rejoice when I am able to pray for all. God Bless Fr. Lenny and Fr. Ashlyn.
Fr. Ashlyn prays so much for souls, like I have never seen anyone pray. I love that.

I wish everybody understood what it means to the souls. One act of kindness from us is a world of kindness to them.

You never know what gratitude, humility and love is until you have met them. Their humility is beyond compare. I have so much to learn. Thank God!
